A 19-year-old man is to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today following the alleged assault of a 45-year-old woman in Berrimah yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Bradley Currie from the Sex Crimes Squad said at around 6:20am the woman was grabbed by a man unknown to her on the Vanderlin Drive walking path, near the Shoal Bay Waste Facticity Road turn off.

“Police attended and apprehended the 19-year-old male nearby.”

He was charged with aggravated assault and an outstanding warrant and was remanded in custody to appear in court today.

Police continue to urge any witnesses of the incident or anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour in the Karama/Berrimah area to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
