Police

Tomorrow, Police in Tennant Creek will officially launch Strike Force Datsun, to specifically target domestic and family violence offenders in their town and the Barkly Region.

Strike Force Datsun, designed in line with Project Respect - Enforce, Engage and Empower, is designed to reduce domestic and family violence and hold perpetrators to account in the Tennant Creek area.

One in three women over the age of 15 will report physical or sexual violence at some point of their lives.

In the last 12 months, more than 3,700 female Territorians over the age of 15 were victims of domestic violence. In 2013 NT Police issued 3,982 Domestic Violence Orders.

Superintendent Daniel Bacon of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Division said the strike force are dedicated to bringing an end to the cycle of violence.

“Every adult and child has the right to a safe environment and NT Police want to send a clear message that offenders of domestic and family violence will be held accountable for their actions.

“Strike Force Datsun members will focus exclusively upon targeted operations aimed at family and domestic violence offenders in Tennant Creek and Communities within the Barkly Region.

“With this new strike force in place we aim to achieve a reduction in assaults as well as targeting repeat domestic violence offenders.”

Anyone who may be a victim or a witness to domestic or family violence is urged to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
