Kava, Cannabis Seized - Milingimbi

A 25-year-old man will appear in court today charged with possession and supply of kava following a search warrant at a property in Milingimbi over the weekend.

Superintendent Craig Barrett from the Arafura Division said Police received reports the alleged offender was selling kava in Milingimbi.

“Police conducted a search of a property and located and seized a small quantity of cannabis and 400 grams of Kava.

“Police located the alleged offender a short time later and recovered a further 1.2 kilograms of kava divided into 15 deal bags and $52,965 in cash.

“Police allege the offender transported over 120 kilograms of kava into Milingimbi during May and June. Police estimate the kava could fetch around $200,000.”

The man was arrested and charged with:

Possess and supply kava (commercial quantity)

Possess and supply kava (trafficable quantity)

Bail was refused and he will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court.

Investigations are continuing with possible further charges relating to the cannabis.
