Joint Operations Leads to Cannabis and MDMA Seizure - Erldunda

A 28-year-old man is to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today, following a drug seizure in Erldunda yesterday.

Detective Acting Superintendent Peter Malley said as part of a joint operation targeting the illicit supply of drugs into the NT, members from the Southern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (SSAID), Dog Operations Unit (DOU) and the Tactical Investigations Squad conducted a search on passengers travelling on a bus from Adelaide to Alice Springs.

“Drug Detector Dog Wilson provided a positive response to a backpack in the cargo hold of the bus. A search of the bag revealed four separate bags containing 2.4kg of cannabis and a container with approximately 400 ecstasy (MDMA) tablets,” Detective A/Superintendent Malley said.

Police located and arrested the 28-year-old owner.

He was charged with possess cannabis - commercial quantity; possess MDMA - commercial quantity; as well as supplying a dangerous drug. He was remanded in custody to appear in court today.

“The seizure of these drugs and arrest of this man again highlights our commitment to disrupting criminal activity and arresting those who supply illicit drugs to vulnerable people.”
