Police are currently in attendance of a two car crash which has claimed the lives of five people, north of Adelaide River.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Strickland Road and the Stuart Highway, about 3 kilometres north of the Adelaide River township.
It is anticipated that the highway will remain closed for some time while Major Crash investigate.
Emergency crews are responding from north and south of Adelaide River and motorists are asked to be aware of their presence and adhere to all traffic direction.
The road toll now stands at 18 compared to 10 at the same time last year
