Firework Seizure - Darwin

Police

Police have arrested a 32 year old Katherine man and seized a large quantity of fireworks following a traffic apprehension in Darwin yesterday.

Watch Commander Brendan Lindner said Police apprehended a semi-trailer on Tiger Brennan Road at around 10:15am yesterday.

“The driver returned a positive breath analysis and was arrested at the scene.

“Police also conducted a search of the vehicle and seized a large quantity of fireworks that were being transported to Katherine.

“The man was issued with a notice to appear for traffic and firework offences and will be appearing in Darwin Magistrates court at a later date.

“In conjunction with NT Worksafe, Police then commenced an investigation into the origin of the fireworks.  This led to a search of a residence in Humpty Doo where a second quantity of fireworks were seized.”

A 33-year-old man is assisting Police with their enquiries and is expected to also appear in court at a later date for fireworks offences.

“Police would like to remind the public that possession of fireworks outside Territory Day is illegal and anyone caught with fireworks run the risk of incurring a $596 fine plus $40 victims levy or appearing before court”
