Firearms Seized - Alice Springs

Strike Force Vega Detectives have charged a 37-year-old man with firearm offences following a search warrant at a residence in Sadadeen.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said Police executed a warrant on Wednesday and located and seized two firearms, a small quantity of cannabis and fireworks.

“Further investigations revealed one of the firearms was stolen from a motor vehicle in 2007, with the second firearm being stolen as the result of an unlawful entry in 2011.”

The 37-year-old man was arrested today and charged with:

Possess unregistered firearms (x2)

Possess cannabis

Possess firearm whilst unlicensed

Fail to meet storage requirements (x4)

Unlawful possession of property

Possession of fireworks

He has been bailed to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 2 October.

“This reflects the continuing good work of Strike Force Vega in the recovery of stolen property,” Detective A/Senior Sergeant Phillips said.

“I would like to thank those members of the public who have assisted Police with enquiries in this matter and the subsequent recovery of stolen firearms.
