A 39-year-old man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court charged in relation to a firearm incident in Coolalinga yesterday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Annette Cooper from the Serious Crime Squad said at around 1:00pm Police received reports of a shotgun being discharged within an open area of a car park next to the Stuart Highway.

Police arrested the man a short time later and charged him with:

Possess/use firearm unlicensed

Possess ammunition without a permit/licence

Unregistered firearm

Discharge firearm in a public place

Carry exposed firearm in a public place

Aggravated assault

Make a threat to kill a person.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court today.
