The NT road toll now stands at 39 following the death of a motorcyclist involved in a crash in Palmerston this afternoon.

Territory Duty Superintendent Bob Harrison said the crash occurred at approximately 5pm at the intersection of Lambrick Avenue and Farrar Boulevard.

"A utility and a motorcycle collided as the vehicles travelled through the intersection.

"Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance attended the scene. The man was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital however passed away a short time later.

"Police from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident."

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The road toll for the same time last year was 36.
