Drug, Taser and Cash Seizure - Muirhead

Police have charged a 23-year-old man in relation to a large drug, Taser and cash seizure in Muirhead.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad conducted a search on a property in Muirhead yesterday.

“Police located and seized 1,339 tablets, some of which presumptive testing indicates are MDMA (ecstasy) mixed with a synthetic drug while others are a synthetic drug requiring further testing.

“In addition police seized a small amount of methamphetamine, 680 grams of steroids, 30 grams of cannabis, a Taser and $135,000 worth of cash,” Detective Superintendent Fuller said.

The 23-year-old was charged with:

  • Possess schedule 2 drug - commercial quantity
  • Supply schedule 2 drug - commercial quantity 
  • Possess tainted property
  • Possess schedule 2 drug - commercial quantity
  • Possess methamphetamine
  • Possess cannabis
  • Possess prohibited weapon
  • He will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.

“It is very satisfying to get these pills, worth approximately $65,000, off the market as well as targeting those who are prospering off the vulnerability of others.

“Again, this seizure goes to show you never know what you are buying as some of these tablets were an ecstasy mix and the others a synthetic substance which may well be similar to substances that have caused unexpected adverse effects and even death in users.

“The misuse of both illicit and prescription drugs have significant impacts on the wellbeing and safety of the community in which we live and Police actively target the suppliers of these substances.”
