Dangerous drugs seized - Darwin

Police

Police from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad have arrested a 19-year-old male following the execution of a search warrant at a Darwin City apartment.

Superintendent Tony Fuller said Detectives raided the apartment yesterday and seized a trafficable quantity of pills, $8,600 cash and a replica hand gun.

“The pills are known as “Quacka’ and this is extremely worrying for Police given recent events.

“Our experience with people under the influence of this drug has been horrifying.

In September, a 20-year-old male died after he fell from the ninth story of the same inner city residential building after allegedly ingesting a ‘Quacka’.

“It is disappointing that only two short months since the tragic death of a young male, Police have seized a quantity of this destructive drug at the apartment building.

“A young woman died in Sydney a fortnight ago after ingesting what is believed to be synthetic drugs at a music festival.

“People need to understand the dangers of these drugs and we again urge parents of teenagers to talk to your kids and warn them of the dangers they face if experimenting with these ‘recreational’ drugs.”

“There is nothing recreational about dying prematurely from trying to get high.

“Do not use this drug, urge your mates not to touch this drug and please report any dealings of this drug to Police,” said Detective Superintendent Fuller.

Superintendent Fuller said reactions to the drug include psychosis and unpredictable, violent behaviour.

The 19-year-old male has been bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on 18th December 2014.
