Dangerous Driving - Alice Springs

Police

Southern Traffic Operations apprehended a 35-year-old man on Larapinta Drive early this morning.

Sergeant Conan Robertson said the man was detected driving almost 40 kilometres per hour over the 60 kilometre per hour speed limit.

“The Officers subjected the man to a Roadside Breath Test (RBT) and he returned a positive result. He was subsequently arrested for a breath analysis that returned a high range reading of 0.227%.

“The driver was unlicensed and he was driving an unregistered vehicle.

“To travel 40 kilometres per hour over the speed limit when you are more than four times the legal breath alcohol limit is reckless and shows blatant disregard for the safety of yourself and others.

"NT Police would like to remind people that, no matter what time of the day or night, Police presence on Northern Territory roads is 24 hours a day and if you drink and drive, or speed, you will get caught," Sergeant Robertson said.

The driver was charged with:

Drive high range blood alcohol content.
Drive a motor vehicle while disqualified.
Drive uninsured motor vehicle.
Drive unregistered motor vehicle.
Exceed speed limit, 31-44km/h over limit.

He has been remanded to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
