Northern Territory Police have formally identified the body of a 57-year-old man taken by a crocodile in the Adelaide River yesterday afternoon.

Members from the Water Police Section and Rangers from Parks and Wildlife NT shot and killed a 4.5 metre crocodile last night.

The body of a male was recovered nearby.

A file is being prepared for the Coroner.
