Commercial Quantity Cannabis Seized - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have seized approximately 1.4 kilograms of cannabis and $1750 in cash following the apprehension of a vehicle on the Stuart Highway.

Superintendent Brent Warren from the Southern Investigations Division said the intercept was part of an operation targeting the supply of dangerous drugs into Alice Springs and surrounding communities.

“The vehicle of interest was sighted travelling towards Alice Springs at about 1pm yesterday afternoon.

“While members conducted a U-turn to apprehend the vehicle it has stopped, a woman exited the vehicle, allegedly in possession of a large white bucket, and attempted to hide in near-by bushes.

“Police will allege the bucket contained three large plastic bags containing cannabis.”

Superintendent Warren said a search of the Falcon sedan uncovered a further small amount of cannabis and $1750 in cash.

A 49-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were arrested and charged with supply a commercial quantity of cannabis and possess a dangerous drug.

They have been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrate Court today.
