A 35-year-old former Alice Springs resident has been charged in relation to the murder of Peter Murphy in Alice Springs on 17 August 2008.

The charges arise after a review of the investigation by the Northern Territory Cold Case Taskforce which made recommendations to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Police will allege the man was directly involved in the murder and Bundaberg Detectives, QLD, served the man with a copy of the charge on Tuesday night.

He has been directed to appear in the Alice Springs Supreme Court on 02 February 2015.
