Car Crash - Amy Johnson Drive

A 28-year-old man remains in intensive care after his car crashed in Winnellie early yesterday morning.

Crime Commander, Richard Bryson said the crash occurred around 1am on Thursday 27 March on the corner of Amy Johnson Drive and Stuart Hwy Winnellie.

“Shortly before the crash Police attempted to stop the car and a short pursuit was commenced, however due to speeds reached by the Honda Accord Police aborted their attempts to apprehend the vehicle.

“A short time later, Police patrolling the area located the crashed Honda Accord after the driver unsuccessfully negotiated a left turn into Amy Johnson Drive.

“Police members were able to extract the driver from the vehicle and applied first aid until St John Ambulance arrived on the scene.

“The man was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital where he immediately underwent surgery and remains in intensive care,” Commander Bryson said.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the vicinity of Knuckey’s Lagoon or the Stuart Highway at Berrimah shortly before 1am to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
