Cannabis Seizure - Oenpelli

Police

Northern Territory Police seized 43 grams of cannabis from a 35-year-old man at Oenpelli airport yesterday.

Commander Bruce Porter said the man was stopped and searched under suspicion of transporting cannabis for sale in the remote community.

“Police will allege the man had the drugs in a taped package secreted in his underwear.

“Some of the cannabis had been pre-packaged into bags which weighed in at half a gram each.

“Police will allege he planned to sell each package for $100.

“At that rate the man stood to make $8,600 from the cannabis.

“This profiteering is extremely disappointing for Police and the community in general.

“It is a timely reminder to anyone thinking about suppling cannabis, alcohol or other drugs into remote communities that Police will not tolerate this behaviour and you will be caught.”

The man was bailed to appear in the Oenpelli Magistrates Court on March 26.
