Cannabis Seized - Gapuwiyak

A 43-year-old man has been charged with drug offences following the execution of a search warrant near Gapuwiyak yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Brendan Muldoon said Police executed a search warrant at an outstation at around 2:30pm.

“Police located and seized 68 grams of cannabis, a number of empty clip seal bags and around $19,000 worth of cash. Police also seized a Hilux utility from the property.

“Police allege the offender became aggressive and resisted Police prior to his arrest.”

He has been charged with:

Supply dangerous drug in a community

Possess a schedule two drug – trafficable quantity

Resist Police in execution of duty.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Friday, 20 June.

Police estimate that if the cannabis was sold in a remote community it would have fetched around $6,800.

“Police will continue to target the individuals who profit from this kind of offending. If you intend to take cannabis or any illicit substances into remote communities, expect to be caught,” Senior Sergeant Muldoon said.
