Assault Police - Call for Witnesses - Palmerston

A 27-year-old man is currently in Police custody following an incident in which two Police Officers were assaulted in Palmerston.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said Detectives from Strike Force Trident witnessed a pedestrian being almost struck by an erratically driven Nissan Navara on Temple Terrace at around midday.

“The driver was stopped on Woodroffe Avenue and proceeded to violently resist arrest.

“A struggle ensued, resulting in one of the Officers receiving a laceration to his arm and the other Officer struck, but only receiving minor injuries.”

The man remains in custody and will be charged with assault Police (x2), escape lawful custody, drive in a manner that is dangerous, possess methamphetamine, drive under the influence of drugs and drive unlicensed.

“A number of witnesses are believed to have been in the area at the time and Police urge anyone who may have seen the Nissan Navara being driven erratically in the Woodroffe area to contact them on 131 444,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Bland said.
