Police from Strike Force Trident have charged a 29-year-old man in relation to a bushfire in Tiwi on Friday 16 May.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the man was allegedly witnessed lighting fires along the edge of the Casuarina Coastal Reserve, behind the Royal Darwin Hospital.

“Police arrested the man yesterday and charged him with person light a bushfire. He received bail and is due to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on 2 July, 2014,”

“Lighting fires like this is highly irresponsible and dangerous. Anybody caught engaging in this type of offending will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said.
