Alcohol, Cannabis Seized - Oenpelli

Police have seized more than 40 litres of alcohol during a targeted operation to disrupt the supply of alcohol and drugs into Arnhem Land.

Superintendent Craig Barrett from the Arafura Division said Police from Oenpelli conducted the operation over the weekend.

“Police apprehended a vehicle near the Arnhem Highway and Oenpelli Road at around 12:20am Sunday and located 10 litres of spirits, two litres of wine and 9 grams of cannabis.

“A 17-year-old male and a 29-year-old woman were issued liquor infringement notices and a 28 year old man was issued a drug and liquor infringement notice.

“Police apprehended a second vehicle on Oenpelli Road at around 1:35am Sunday and located three cartons of beer, 10 Litres of Port and five litres of Sprits and a small clip seal bag of cannabis.

“Two women aged 30 and 34 and a 35-year-old man were issued a liquor infringement notices. A 27-year-old man was issued a drug and liquor infringement notice.”

The alcohol and cannabis was seized by Police.

“Police will continue to target people who bring illicit substances into remote communities, and warn those who continue to engage in this illegal activity will be caught,” Superintendent Barrett said.
