Woman Charged after Making False Report

Serious Crime Detectives have charged a 26-year-old woman after making a false report to Police

Commander Richard Bryson of the Crime and Specialist Service Command, said the woman reported to Police she had been assaulted and robbed along the Kakadu Highway on Thursday morning, 29 August.

“Police took theses allegations very seriously, and a large number of specialist Police resources from investigations, intelligence and forensic areas were utilised.

“At around 9pm last night the woman admitted to Police she had fabricated her story.

“Investigations have established the woman crashed her hire car into a tree near Jabiru causing extensive panel damage to the vehicle.

“The injuries the woman alleges occurred during the assault were in fact injuries sustained earlier whilst swimming at Florence Falls.”

She has been charged with a number of offences including:

Making a false declaration (x2)

Drive without due care

Fail to report crash

She has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on Monday, 2 September.
