Alice Springs Police are investigating an unlawful entry incident that occurred at a residence in East Side this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said is alleged the offender entered the unoccupied residence and stole a television set at around 12:30am.

“A neighbour, a 54-year-old woman, heard the disturbance and followed the alleged offender down to the Todd River but eventually lost sight of him.

“Upon returning to the residence she noticed smoke and flames coming from the lounge room.

“Police allege the offender set fire to a curtain in the lounge room before fleeing the area. Northern Territory Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire a short time later with only minor damage to the lounge room and laundry.

“The offender is described as a man of Aboriginal appearance and approximately 40-years-old. He was wearing dark pants and a blue singlet.”
