Two Northern Territory Police Officers have entered a burning house and escorted two residents to safety.

Detective Sergeant Leith Phillips said the two Officers attended Charles Creek Camp just before 8pm last night and observed a house on fire.

“Fire was coming from the roof and thick smoke was pouring out of the lounge area of the dwelling.

“The Officers went into the house to check for occupants and found two people inside.

“They guided them out to the safety of the backyard.

“Both of the men had been asleep and were in a state of confusion due to the smoke.

“There is no doubt the quick action of the Officers has saved them from serious harm.”

Detective Sergeant Phillips said Members from the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service arrived shortly after and extinguished the blaze.

“As a result of the fire a 61-year-old female has been charged with arson and recklessly endangering life.

“She has been remanded to appear before the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday 18 November."
