Trident Arrests Car Thief - Darwin

Members from Strike Force Trident have had a breakthrough in an outstanding case and arrested a 20-year-old man who allegedly unlawfully entered a number of residences and stole two vehicles.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the offender allegedly unlawfully entered a home in Fannie Bay and stole a Toyota station wagon on 4 February.

“The alleged offender has then driven to a residence in Wulagi and abandoned the vehicle after it ran out of fuel. He has then allegedly unlawfully entered a residence in Wulagi and stole a Toyota Hilux.”

“The Toyota Hilux was recovered by Police near Jabiru on 11 February. The vehicle received significant damage as a result of it being crashed. The airbag has deployed and the driver and co offender have unfortunately received injuries in the accident.”

“Members from Strike Force Trident arrested the man today, he has been charged with stealing (x2), aggravated enter dwelling with intent to commit offence(x2), aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle and unlawful use of motor vehicle.”

He will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on 15 May.

The co offender was arrested on a previous date.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said, “We get a lot of cases where people leave their houses unlocked and their car keys within easy access to thieves.  It just makes it so easy for crooks.  Lock your homes and put your car keys somewhere that criminals will not easily find them.”
