Detectives from Strike Force Vega are investigating a suspicious structure fire which occurred at a school in Alice Springs yesterday.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren of the Southern Investigations Division said the fire, on Blain Road, was reported by an off duty Police Officer at around 1pm Sunday.

“NT Fire and Rescue members attended and extinguished the blaze. It appears the fire originated in a storage area before spreading and engulfing part of the ceiling and roof cavity, impacting at least one classroom,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“Police are currently treating the fire as suspicious and urge anyone who may have information relating to the blaze, or anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
