Police

Alice Springs Police have made 152 arrests during the first three months of an operation to reduce domestic and family violence.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said that Investigators from Strike Force Halberd have cleared 370 offences, prepared 305 prosecution files, and issued 103 Domestic Violence Orders.

Police have made a further six arrests this week including:

  • A 28-year-old female who became drunk and used a rock to assault her female victim, causing her lacerations and a broken finger.
  • A 19-year-old male who became drunk and used a metal pole to strike his female victim to the head and arm.
  • A 30-year-old male who became drunk and then punched and kicked his female victim to the head and body.
  • A 36-year-old male who became drunk and kicked his female victim to the head four times.

“It is extremely disappointing to observe that all of these assaults were committed by intimate partners or close family members.

“Alice Springs Police will continue to take a zero tolerance approach towards this type of outrageous violence, ensuring that whenever possible offenders are placed before court for their criminal conduct.”
