Strike Force Halberd Arrest Two

Members from Strike Force Halberd made a further two arrests as part of targeted approach to reduce domestic and family violence crime in Alice Springs.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said a 32-year-old man was arrested yesterday following the assault of a 33-year-old woman in April and May.

“He was charged with aggravated assault (x3) and armed with an offensive weapon. He is remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 17 October 2013.

“In a separate incident a 22-year-old man was arrested following the assault of a 24-year-old woman on Wednesday.

“He was arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated assault, engage in conduct that contravenes a DVO and breach of bail.”

He is remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 12 September 2013.

Strike Force Halberd commenced on August 1 and in that time has managed 64 arrests in relation to 156 offences.

“This kind of alcohol fuelled violence perpetrated against mostly female victims will not be tolerated. Being intoxicated is not an excuse for violence and Alice Springs Police will continue to take a zero tolerance approach towards this kind of behaviour,” Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said.
