Stolen Motor Vehicle - Darwin

Police

Members from Strike Force Trident have charged a 14-year-old male after he allegedly stole a taxi from a depot in Darwin City this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the youth allegedly stole the vehicle at around 1.20am.

“Police located the alleged offender driving the taxi along Mueller Road and attempted to apprehend the vehicle.

“The alleged offender drove off and Police have followed the taxi for a short period of time.

“At around 6.00am Police located the taxi in Bellamack after it lost control and crashed through the front fence of a residence. The vehicle sustained significant damage to the front as a result of the crash.

“Police located and arrested the alleged offender a short time later.”

The 14-year-old has been charged with:

·        Aggravated unlawful entry

·        Stealing

·        Aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle

·        Speeding

·        Fail to obey direction of a Police Officer

·        Drive in a manner dangerous to the public

·        Unlawfully damage property.

He will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court at a later date. Police are still looking for three more offenders, one of whom fled the crash on foot.

He is described as a 14 year old Aboriginal male of medium complexion, approximately 170 centimetres in height and of slim build.
