A 28-year-old man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court in relation to an alleged stealing with violence incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board said the incident occurred at around 6pm on 5 May along the Darwin Esplanade.

“The offender approached a 24-year-old woman and allegedly grabbed her hand bag before running away.

“A 27-year-old man has pursued the offender and caught up with him. The offender has then allegedly punched the man to the face several times and then fled.

“General duties patrols arrested the man a short time later. Serious Crime Squad detectives yesterday charged the man with robbery, aggravated assault, resist Police and furnish false name.”

He has been remanded to appear in Darwin Magistrates court today.
