Rock throwing incident - Information sought

Police

Police are requesting public assistance to identify two youths who were allegedly involved in a rock-throwing incident on Bagot Road in the early hours of this morning.

Acting Superintendent Kerry Hoskins from the Darwin Metropolitan Division said three vehicles were hit by items thrown from the side of the road.

“Initial investigations have led Police to believe the youths were hiding behind a bus stop near the Bagot Community and were targeting outbound vehicles at around quarter-to-four this morning.

“The first vehicle had a rock smash the passenger side quarter window and a few minutes later a taxi had the front passenger window shattered by another rock.  Shortly after this another taxi had a stick fly through the open passenger window and strike the driver in the head.

“No injuries were received by any of the drivers but damage to the vehicles will be in excess of $1500.”

Acting Superintendent Hoskins said the action of these alleged offenders was incredibly dangerous.

“The fact that no-one was injured was pure luck.  A projectile of this nature has the potential to be fatal and Police take these incidents very seriously.”

The alleged offenders are described as male, of aboriginal appearance and in their early teens.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone who witnesses a rock throwing incident or is a victim of an attack is asked to report the incident to Police as soon as possible.
