Queensland Man Arrested - Darwin

Police

A 61-year-old man has been arrested in Darwin, on a Queensland arrest warrant for fraud offences committed against the Queensland Government.

Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board from the Serious Crime Squad said Detectives arrested the man this morning at Vesteys Beach after arriving on shore in his dinghy.

“It will be alleged the man dishonestly gained benefit of $58,000 from the Queensland Government by receiving payments from grants and assistance for victims of the 2011 Queensland floods.

“A joint operation with Queensland Police Detectives tracked the man sailing across the Arafura Sea from Queensland to Darwin.”

Queensland Detectives will arrive tomorrow to commence formal extradition proceedings.
