The Northern Territory public is being warned against new designer drugs, believed to be responsible for two overdoses in Darwin and a possible death in South Australia.

The synthetic amphetamines are believed to be imported from China and contain various chemical components which are extremely potent, resulting in dangerous hallucinogenic side effects as well as being potentially fatal.

“Due to the potent nature of the drugs, even small amounts can render a user prone to an overdose.” Said Police Commissioner John McRoberts.

"Police do not believe these synthetic drugs are being manufactured in the Territory, but there is evidence they are emerging on the streets of Darwin.”

“People are reminded that all drug activity is illegal and being in possession of illicit substances is a crime.” Said Commissioner McRoberts.

“There’s no such thing as recreational drug use. An unintended consequence of engaging in illicit drugs, particularly amphetamine-type substances, could be hospitalisation or even worse.”
