Tennant Creek residents and visitors alike enjoyed a successful football grand final on the weekend, with the Janapurlalki Eagles taking out the premiership flag, defeating the Ali Curung Kangaroos by 20 points.
In a targeted operation focussing on social order, Tennant Creek Police have kept violent crime, anti-social behaviour and traffic violations in check, posting impressive results.
“With an influx of visitors to the town for the footy, we established a zero tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour, resulting in a very successful football final,” said Officer in Charge of Tennant Creek Police, Senior Sergeant Des Green.
“While the community must be commended for their behaviour, Police did send a very strong message early on that alcohol related offending would not be tolerated.
“General Duties and Crime members worked tirelessly from Thursday, to ensure that this event remained a safe one.
“Some of the results from the weekend demonstrate that we were very much on the front foot when it came to preventing and dealing with trouble”.
Results include:
- 14 x Arrests
- 186 x People taken into protective custody
- 27 x Banning Notices Issued
- 29 x Liquor Infringement Notices Issued
- 20 x Summary Infringement Notices Issued
- 11 x Traffic Infringement Notices Issued
- 22 x Random Breath Testing Stations conducted
- 188 x Litres of liquor seized / tipped out
“The crowd was on the whole very well behaved and the organisers of the football must be commended for staging a very well-run event. It was pleasing to have community support as we go about our business of Keeping People Safe,” concluded Senior Sergeant Green.
