Ordnance Found - Alice Springs

Police

Police were called to a residence in East Side after the discovery of ordnance in the back yard.

Acting Superintendent Travis Wurst said a 41-year-old man was cleaning up the yard yesterday when he discovered a box full of detonators.

“NT Police Bomb Technicians and Australian Federal Police Bomb Appraisal Officers attended the location and cordoned off the house.

“Police located and recovered 104 detonators. The detonators are believed to be several years old and are the type used in mining operations. They have been removed from the site and will be disposed of by Police.

“It is important not to move items of this nature. If you do find an ordnance or explosives mark the location of the object and call Police, who will in turn alert the appropriate authorities and have them safely removed.”
