Operation Elektra Wraps Up

Police

Police have made 39 arrests, taken 390 people into protective custody and destroyed 816 litres of alcohol during a three week operation targeting public order offending.

Commander Anne-Marie Murphy said Operation Elektra saw members conduct highly visible patrols of known hotspots in Darwin, Casuarina, Nightcliff and Palmerston.

“A further 212 Liquor Infringement Notices, 41 Drug Infringement Notices and 200 Banning Notices were issued by Police during this operation.

“The consumption of alcohol and other substances is frequently linked to the incidents of public order offending.

“We are committed to reducing the number of incidents and will continue to patrol these hotspots as well as conduct ongoing operations at the Mindil Markets during the Dry Season.

“Police were pleased with the general behaviour of the public at the markets last Thursday and urge all Territorians to enjoy the Dry Season responsibly.”

Operation Elektra commenced 9 April and concluded 26 April and included members from the Darwin Metropolitan Command, Metropolitan Patrol Group, Mounted Police and Traffic Operations.

Members of the community are encouraged to report instances of public order offending by calling the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
