Officers attached to Operation Elektra have issued 69 liquor infringement notices, 27 loitering notices, destroyed 136 litres of alcohol and taken 16 people into protective custody in just four days, in a crack down on public order offending throughout Darwin and surrounding suburbs.
"Northern Territory Police are continuing to take a zero tolerance approach towards anti-social behaviour and public order offending with the commencement of Operation Elektra.” Said Acting Assistant Commissioner Peter Bravos.
“This operation reflects our commitment to Operational Excellence by focussing on reducing crime, ensuring professionalism and enhancing customer service.”
“Operation Elektra is a highly visible enforcement orientated policing response to known public order hot spots around Darwin, Casuarina, Nightcliff and Palmerston.”
“Resources from the Darwin Metropolitan Command will be supported by the Metropolitan Patrol Group, Mounted Operations Unit, Darwin Traffic Operations and the Territory Intelligence Division to conduct foot, bicycle, mounted and vehicular patrols to target alcohol misuse, violence and public order offending.” Said Acting Assistant Commissioner Bravos.
Police Officers will also be supported by Public Housing Safety Officers, Liquor Commission Inspectors and Darwin City Council officers in a concerted effort to decrease Public Order offending in the Darwin Metropolitan Command.
The Operation began on the 9th of April and will conclude on the 26th of April.
Members of the community are encouraged to report instances of public order offending by calling the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or by approaching patrolling Officers.
