Operation Crossroads, a national operation taking in the Christmas and New Year festivities has concluded. The operation saw an increased Police presence in an effort to reduce trauma and keep people safe during a traditionally busy time on our roads.
Acting Superintendent Roger Jeffrey from the Traffic Operations Division said that while Police thanked the drivers who acted in a responsible and safe manner the number of people doing the wrong thing was still way too high.
“It is very disappointing that despite a range of warnings Police would be out in force we still caught 18 drink drivers in one 24 hour period in Darwin alone.
“Police do not understand why people are still willing to take a risk with their safety and the safety of others with absolutely no thought to the consequences.”
Acting Superintendent Jeffrey also said the number of drivers speeding or who had licence issues was also unacceptable.
