Police have charged a 46-year-old man with murder following an assault which occurred in Darwin City on Friday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Morgan from the Major Crime Squad said an altercation occurred at around 8:00pm near the intersection of Smith and Edmunds Streets.

“Police and St John Ambulance members attended, however the 27-year-old male victim died a short time later,” Detective Senior Sergeant Morgan said.

“The man was charged by his hospital bedside today, where he will remain under guard.

“Police have released a number of images of possible witnesses and we urge them, or any other witnesses, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
