A 22-year-old man is currently in Police custody following two sexual assaults in Malak early this morning.

Officer in Charge of the Sex Crimes Squad, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Karen Sanderson, said the incident was reported to Police at around 2am.

“It is alleged the man, who was known to the first victim, entered the 42-year-old’s bedroom and attempted to sexually assault her while she slept,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Sanderson said.

“The woman ran from the unit to a nearby phone booth where she contacted Police.

“General Duties Officers and Dog Operations Unit members attended the scene and located the man attempting to sexually assault a 36-year-old woman in a nearby park.

“The man fled from the scene and was located a short time later by General Purpose Dogs ‘Pax’ and ‘Allo’.

“The 22-year-old was taken into custody and is expected to be charged later today with violence and sex offences.”
