Lock It or Lose It - Darwin

Police

Police are urging people to lock their vehicles and homes and keep car keys out of sight following a series of unlawful entries across Darwin recently.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said thieves unlawfully entered a residence in Wagaman and stole an iPhone, car keys and a red Toyota Camry Wagon at around 1:00am today.

“It appears these criminals were able to steal the vehicle after the owner left the car keys near the front door.

“The undamaged vehicle was recovered by Police a short time later.

“It is frustrating for us, the number of burglaries we go to where people have left their houses unlocked. People are making it so easy for these criminals that commit these crimes.

“To add insult to injury people leave car keys and wallets within easy access to thieves. Simple things like locking your house and putting your car keys in your bedroom at night will greatly reduce the chances of you being the next victim.”

Police would like to speak to three males of Aboriginal appearance who were seen at United Fuel on Vanderlin Drive at around 2am Friday.

Police urge anyone with information relating to the incident, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
