Two people will face court following the seizure of more than 30kg of kava in Nhulunbuy late last night.

Senior Sergeant Brendan Muldoon said Nhulunbuy Police attended the local airport last night and conducted searches on the baggage of a 51-year-old male and a 50-year-old female.

“Police located 22.3kg of kava in the man’s luggage and 10.2kg of kava in the woman’s bags,” Senior Sergeant Muldoon said.

“Both offenders were arrested and have been charged with offences including possess and supply trafficable quantity of kava.

“The male has been remanded in custody to appear in court on Monday. The female received bail and will appear in court at a later date.”
