Police are calling for public assistance in relation to an alleged hit and run incident in Alice Springs tonight.

Watch Commander, Acting Senior Sergeant Phil Emmett said a deceased female was located on the Stuart Highway near the intersection of Ilparpa Road at around 7:40pm.

“The Major Crash Investigation Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and a crime scene has been established. The northbound lane of the Stuart Highway remains closed.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who many have any information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

The Territory road toll now stands at 6 compared to 9 for the same period last year.
