Helicopter Crash – Lake Nash

Police and Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) members are investigating a helicopter crash which occurred outside of Lake Nash yesterday.

Superintendent Craig Barrett of the Tennant Creek and Barkly Division said the incident occurred at around 4pm, 70km south west of the Lake Nash Station.

“It appears the Robinson 22, piloted by a 44-year-old man, crashed on take off. The pilot was thrown from the aircraft and received serious head injuries,” Superintendent Barrett said.

“The Royal Flying Doctor Service medivaced the victim to Townsville Hospital.

“Tennant Creek Investigators have travelled to the scene this morning to assist ATSB members investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.”
