The Territory road toll has climbed to 24 following the death of a pedestrian in Batchelor overnight.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Worrall of the Major Crash Investigation Section said the incident occurred at approximately 7:15pm as a 30-year-old male, driving a Nissan Patrol, travelled east along Batchelor Road.
“At this stage it appears a 39-year-old woman stepped out into the path of the oncoming vehicle, approximately 10km from the Stuart Highway intersection,” Detective Senior Sergeant Worrall said.
“The woman was struck by the four wheel drive and was treated by bystanders and Batchelor clinic and St John Ambulance staff. Sadly she died before she could be conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital.
“Major Crash Investigation members are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.”
The road toll for the same time last year stood at 33.
