The Territory road toll has climbed to nine, following a fatal crash between a 49-year-old female cyclist and a Nissan Patrol in Humpty Doo this morning.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant John Worrall of the Major Crash Investigation Section said the crash, on Redcliffe Road, occurred at around 6:15am today.
“Investigations surrounding the incident are underway, however it appears the cyclist was travelling on Redcliffe Road on her way to work when she was struck by the vehicle,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Worrall said.
“Police, Fire and Rescue and St John Ambulance members attended, however the victim passed away at the scene.
“The driver of the Nissan Patrol was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital and treated for shock.
“The exact circumstances of the crash are still the subject of investigation and it will likely take several more days to establish a definitive account of exactly what occurred.”
The road toll at this time last year stood at 10.
