Drugs Bound for Communities Seized – Darwin

Police seized more than $17,000 worth of cannabis and arrested three people at Darwin Airport over the weekend.

Sergeant Mark Malogorski from the Drug and Organised Crime Section said Police located a quantity of cannabis in two separate seizures yesterday afternoon.

“Police, utilising the keen nose of Drug Detector Dogs Viper and Puma, located 89 grams of cannabis and three bottles of spirits in the luggage of a 33-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, bound for the Tiwi Islands, Sergeant Malogorski said.

“Both were charged with possess cannabis – trafficable quantity and bring liquor into an alcohol protected area.

“Police also located 39 grams of cannabis inside the clothing of a 16-year-old female, destined for Groote Eylandt. She was charged with possess dangerous drug and unlawfully supply cannabis to another.

“The supply of cannabis and alcohol into remote communities is not only illegal, it is extremely harmful and Police will continue targeting these offenders.”
