Northern Territory Police have arrested a 43-year-old Darwin woman following the seizure of over $150,000 of crystal methamphetamine in Darwin last week.

Members of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad also arrested a 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman is to be summonsed for drug offences. The women were arrested at residences in Parap on Friday following the seizure of two separate packages of crystal methamphetamine which had been sent through the post addressed to a family member.

Police will allege that the 43-year-old woman was the principal player in a drug supply ring that included other members of the extended family.

The woman was charged with:

·        Attempt to possess methamphetamines - trafficable (x 2)

·        Possess a dangerous drug - methamphetamines (x7)

·        Supply methamphetamines (x 5)

·        Possess a dangerous drug - cannabis

·        Possess thing to administer dangerous drug

·        Conspire with another to commit crime

She was refused bail and was remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on April 22.

The 20-year-old woman was charged with:

• Attempt to possess methamphetamines - trafficable
• Possess a dangerous drug - methamphetamines
• Conspire with another to commit crime

She was bailed to appear at Darwin Magistrates Court at a later date.

The 19-year-old woman will be summonsed to appear in relation to possession and supply of cannabis.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter SCHILLER of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said that the arrests were the result of an extended investigation and that the drugs had a conservative street value in excess of $150,000.

“Some excellent Police work went into this operation. Crystal methamphetamine is a particularly noxious drug that causes tremendous carnage to those families affected by it. It produces erratic and violent behaviour in users. In some cases this damage appears to be an acceptable casualty to those making money from the drug.”
