Two pedestrians, a male and a female, have died following a collision with a road train in Beswick late last night.
Superintendent Danny Bacon from the Arnhem and Western Division said the road train was travelling towards Katherine on the Central Arnhem Highway when it collided with the pair, approximately 8km east of the Stuart Highway intersection.
“Police from Maranboy and Mataranka and health clinic staff from Barunga attended, however both pedestrians died at the scene,” Superintendent Bacon said.
“The 43-year-old male driver was uninjured in the crash.
“The Central Arnhem Highway remains closed at the crash site as Katherine Investigators work on the scene.
“Investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.”
This now takes the NT road toll to 12 compared to 13 for the same period last year.
