Crash - Cyclist vs Vehicle - Katherine

Katherine Police are calling upon the public for assistance in relation to a serious motor vehicle crash which occurred on the Stuart Highway approximately 7 kilometres south of the township this morning.

At about 6.20am a cyclist and a vehicle, both travelling north, collided.  The impact of the collision resulted in the 60-year-old male cyclist falling to the verge, sustaining serious injuries.

Initially transported to the Katherine Hospital, the cyclist has since been medi-vacced to the Royal Darwin Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Superintendent Megan Rowe from the Katherine Division reinforced the importance of using safety gear when cycling.

“Cyclists are reminded to ensure that safety equipment such as helmets are worn and lights activated during the hours of darkness as they could help save your life.”

Police are asking for anyone who might have witnessed the crash to contact them on 131444.
